APPLICANT REQUESTS THAT:

She be awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal (SWASM).

STATEMENT OF FACTS:

On 27 Mar 03, the Board considered and denied the applicant’s 
request that her records be corrected to show her entitlement to 
the SWASM. For an accounting of the facts and circumstances 
surrounding the applicant’s initial request, and the rationale 
of the earlier decision by the Board, see the Record of 
Proceedings at Exhibit E (with Exhibits A through D).

By application, dated 27 Jan 10, the applicant requests 
reconsideration of her appeal, stating that she performed 
temporary duty in Saudi Arabia in support of Operation 
DESERT/SHIELD DESERT/STORM.  

In support of her appeal, the applicant submits copies of 
special order TS-227, photographs, DD Form 214, Certificate of 
Release or Discharge from Active Duty, and other documentation 
associated with her request.

Exhibit F.

THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:

In an earlier finding, the Board determined there was 
insufficient evidence to warrant any corrective action regarding 
the applicant’s request that she be awarded the SWASM.  After a 
thorough review of her current submission and the evidence of 
record, it is our opinion that corrective action is warranted in 
this case.  In this respect, we note that in support of her 
appeal, the applicant submits numerous photographs of herself in 
Saudi Arabia and Special Order TS-227 that indicate she was 
ordered to perform temporary duty in Saudi Arabia.  In view of 
the foregoing, and having no basis to question the veracity of 
the individual’s submission, we believe any doubt concerning the 
applicant’s entitlement to the SWASM should be resolved in her 
favor.  Accordingly, we recommend that her records be corrected 
to the extent indicated below.

THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:

The pertinent military records of the Department of the Air 
Force relating to APPLICANT, be corrected to show that she was 
awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal for her service in the 
Persian Gulf from 14 Mar 92 through 13 Jun 92.
