Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show his foreign service in Iraq. 2. The applicant states that item 18 (Remarks) of his DD Form 214 shows he completed 15 months of service in Iraq, yet item 12f (Foreign Service) does not reflect this service. 3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 13 July 2005. He completed training and was awarded military occupational specialty 63M (Bradley Fighting Vehicle System Maintainer). 2. His Enlisted Record Brief shows he was deployed to Iraq from 10 January 2007 through 27 March 2008, a period of 1 year, 2 months, and 18 days. 3. On 27 December 2008, he was honorably released from active duty and transferred to the South Carolina Army National Guard. His DD Form 214 shows he was credited with 3 years, 5 months, and 15 days of active service. The highest rank/grade he attained while serving on active duty was specialist/E-4. * item 12f does not show completion of any foreign service * item 18 contains the entry "SERVICE IN IRAQ 20070110-20080327" 4. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) records show the applicant received hostile fire/imminent danger pay and combat zone tax exclusion for Kuwait from 14 January 2007 through 28 March 2008. 5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents that must be prepared for Soldiers on retirement, discharge, or release from active service or control of the Active Army. Chapter 2 contains guidance on the preparation of the DD Form 214. Paragraph 2-4 states that item 12f of the DD Form 214 documents the total amount of foreign service completed during the period of service represented in item 12c (Net Active Service This Period). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The preponderance of the evidence of record shows he deployed to Iraq from 10 January 2007 through 27 March 2008; therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this foreign service.
