THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), dated 10 December 2010, by showing in: * Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) the Bronze Star Medal * Item 14 (Military Education) the Middle East Culture Integration Course 2. He states that his DD Form 214 was prepared and issued before the Bronze Star Medal was awarded; however, it covers the tour during which the medal was earned. He recently acquired the certificate for the Middle East Culture Integration Course. 3. He provides copies of his: * Middle East Culture Integration Course Certificate * 2010 DD Form 214 * Bronze Star Medal Orders and Certificate, dated 9 February 2011 CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant's military records show he was appointed in Nevada Army National Guard (NVARNG), as a second lieutenant, on 20 September 1989, with prior enlisted service. He was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and entered active duty on 19 March 2010. 2. He provided a copy of a Certificate of Training showing he successfully completed the Middle East Culture Integration Course from 13-17 September 2010 (40 hours). 3. He was honorably released from active duty in the rank of lieutenant colonel on 10 December 2010 and transferred to a NVARNG unit. 4. Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of his DD Form 214 does not list the Bronze Star Medal. 5. Item 14 (Military Education) of his DD Form 214 does not list the Middle East Culture Integration Course. 6. Permanent Orders Number 040-010 were issued by Headquarters, Joint Forces Special Operations Component Command – Iraq, on 9 February 2011, awarding him the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service from 5 April to 12 December 2010. He also provided the resulting certificate. 7. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) states Item 14 will list formal in-service (full-time attendance) training courses successfully completed during the period of service covered by the DD Form 214. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. Permanent orders awarded the applicant the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service from 5 April to 12 December 2010. Therefore, he is entitled to correction to his 2010 DD Form 214 to show this award. 2. The evidence of record confirms he successfully completed the Middle East Culture Integration Course from 13-17 September 2010 (40 hours). Therefore, his DD Form 214 should also be corrected to show he completed this course. 3. In view of the foregoing, his records should be corrected as recommended below.
