BOARD DATE: 14 August 2012 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120002873 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show his award of the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) he received at the expiration of his term of service (ETS). 2. The applicant states his ETS ARCOM needs to be added to his record. 3. The applicant provides a DA Form 638 (Recommendation for Award), dated 22 November 2011, in support of his application. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant was honorably released from active duty (REFRAD) on 9 January 2012, in the rank/grade of captain (CPT)/O-3. He completed 4 years and 11 days of net active service this period for a total of 10 years and 1 day of creditable active service. The DD Form 214 he was issued for this period of service shows the ARCOM (6th Award) in the list of earned awards. 2. The applicant's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) contains a certificate that confirms the applicant was awarded the ARCOM for meritorious service during the period 21 July 2010 to 7 January 2012. It also confirms this award was authorized and announced in Permanent Order Number 335-001, issued by Headquarters, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, dated 1 December 2011. 3. The applicant provides a DA Form 638, dated 22 November 2011, that contains the recommendation for the award of the ARCOM for meritorious service during the period 21 July 2010 to 7 January 2012. Item 8 (Previous Awards) includes the ARCOM-6 (6th Award) and item 10 (Recommended Award) contains the entry "ARCOM 6OLC" (6th Oak Leaf Cluster). 4. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states that an oak leaf cluster is awarded to denote the second and succeeding awards of certain decorations, among which is the ARCOM. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The evidence of record confirms the applicant was awarded the ARCOM for his meritorious service during the period from 21 July 2010 to 7 January 2012, and that this award was authorized and announced in orders published on 1 December 2011. 2. The evidence provided by the applicant in the form of a DA Form 638 further shows that prior to the award in question, the applicant received 6 previous awards of the ARCOM. As such, the award in question was the seventh award of the ARCOM. Therefore, his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show the ARCOM (7th Award).
