THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 5 October 2010 to add medals for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan. 2. He states he served in Iraq and in Afghanistan in 2009. 3. He provides no additional evidence. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant initially enlisted in the Regular Army on 19 October 2005 and he was honorably discharged on 12 August 2006. 2. He again enlisted in the Regular Army on 21 September 2007. His Enlisted Record Brief indicates he served in Korea from 6 October 2007 to 2 June 2009. 3. His service record is void of evidence which indicates he served in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009. 4. He was discharged from active duty on 5 October 2010. His DD Form 214 for the period ending 5 October 2010 shows in: a. item 12f (Foreign Service) the entry "0001  07  27" indicating his service in Korea, b. item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) no medals for service in Iraq or Afghanistan, and c. item 18 (Remarks) no entry indicating service in Iraq or Afghanistan. 5. His military pay records at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service do not indicate he received hostile fire pay (HFP)/imminent danger pay (IDP) and combat zone tax exclusion (CZTE) for service in Iraq and Afghanistan. 6. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) prescribes Army policy, criteria, and administrative instructions concerning individual and unit military awards. a. The Afghanistan Campaign Medal is awarded to members who served in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The area of eligibility encompasses all the land area of the country of Afghanistan and all air spaces above the land area. The period of eligibility is on or after 24 October 2001 to a future date to be determined by the Secretary of Defense or the cessation of Operation Enduring Freedom. b. The Iraq Campaign Medal is awarded to members who served in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The area of eligibility encompasses all the land area of the country of Iraq, the contiguous water area out to 12 nautical miles, and all air spaces above the land area of Iraq and above the contiguous water area out to 12 nautical miles. The Iraq Campaign Medal period of eligibility is on or after 19 March 2003 to 31 December 2011. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant contends he served in Iraq and in Afghanistan in 2009. However, his service record is void of evidence and he has not provided any evidence which indicates he was deployed to these countries. 2. His military pay records do not show he received HFP/IDP and CZTE for service in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009. 3. In the absence of evidence to support his claim, there is no basis for granting his request.
