IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 4 September 2012 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120005331 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the Meritorious Unit Commendation. 2. The applicant states his unit was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation after he was discharged from active duty for a period he was assigned to the unit. 3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214 and two orders. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant's records show he enlisted in the Regular Army on 6 September 2005 and he held military occupational specialty 42A (Human Resources Specialist). 2. He served in Iraq from 10 November 2008 to 9 October 2009 while assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 84th Engineer Battalion. 3. He was honorably released from active duty on 27 February 2010 and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve. He completed 4 years, 5 months, and 22 days of creditable active service. 4. The DD Form 214 he was issued does not show the Meritorious Unit Commendation. 5. A review of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command website shows that HHC, 84th Engineer Battalion, was cited for award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation for the period 12 November 2008 through 11 November 2009 by Department of the Army Permanent Orders Number 169-02, dated 18 June 2010. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of record confirms permanent orders awarded the applicant's unit the Meritorious Unit Commendation during a period he was assigned to the unit. Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this unit award.
