THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant, the widow of a deceased former service member (FSM), requests the correction of the FSM’s DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show his service in Vietnam. 

2.  The applicant states that due to an administrative error, the FSM’s service in Vietnam was not listed on his DD Form 214.

3.  The applicant provides the FSM's DD Form 214 and a death certificate. 

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  The FSM's records show he was inducted into the Army of the United States on 30 March 1967.  On 5 April 1967, he was assigned for basic combat training (BCT) to the 2nd BCT Brigade, Fort Bliss, TX.  

2.  He completed BCT and on 18 June 1967, he was assigned for advanced individual training (AIT) to the 4th Engineer Training Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  Upon his successful completion of AIT, he was awarded military occupational specialty 51B (Carpenter).

3.  On 5 September 1967, he was assigned to Fort Campbell, KY.  While serving at Fort Campbell, KY, he was assigned to the following units from:

* 5 September 1967 - 29 January 1968, Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), U.S. Army Garrison
* 30 January - 19 March 1968, HHC, 51st Engineer Battalion
* 20 March - 25 June 1968, Troop C, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry
* 26 June - 22 July 1968, Company A, 6th Battalion, 1st Infantry
* 23 July - 12 December 1968, HHC, 6th Battalion, 1st Infantry
* 13 December 1968 - 28 March 1969, Company B, 4th Battalion, 1st Infantry

4.  He was honorably released from active duty on 28 March 1969 and he was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve.  He completed 1 year, 11 months, and 29 days of creditable active service.

5.  There is no evidence in the FSM's records that shows he ever served in Vietnam.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The evidence of record does not show that the FSM ever served in Vietnam.  There is no evidence that shows his DD Form 214 was improperly completed.  Therefore, the applicant is not entitled to the requested relief.
