BOARD DATE: 8 October 2013 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20130003398 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his reentry (RE) code. 2. The applicant states he was getting out for a general school drop and his unit did not know the proper procedure. Now he is in the Army National Guard but he can't go to Officer Candidate School under the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) because of the RE code. 3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of release or Discharge from Active Duty. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant served on active duty in the Regular Army from February 2006 to December 2010. 2. In accordance with his 25 October 2010 request he was released from active duty early to attend a civilian school. 3. In accordance with Army Regulation 635-200, paragraph 5-16 the applicant was honorably separated and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve (Individual Ready Reserve). He was assigned a separation code of MCF and an RE code of 3. 4. Army Regulation 635-200 (Active Duty Enlisted Administrative Separations), paragraph 5-16 provides that a Soldier may be separated up to 90 days early in order to start to further their civilian education. They must not be mission essential to the unit and they must show they have been accepted to commence school for a specific term. 5. Army Regulation 635-5-1 (Separation Program Designator (SPD)) Codes) provides the specific authorities (regulatory or directive), reasons for separating Soldiers from active duty, and the SPD codes to be entered on the DD Form 214. It shows SPD code "MCF" is the appropriate code to assign to Soldiers separated under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200, paragraph 5-16, to attend civilian schooling. The SPD/RE Code Cross Reference Table shows RE code "3" will be assigned to members separated with an SPD code of "MCF." DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: He voluntarily left active duty early in order to attend school. He was assigned the correct separation and RE codes. There is insufficient basis for granting the requested relief.
