THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show award of the Iraq Campaign Medal with six bronze service stars in lieu of four bronze service stars. 2. He states that during his three deployments to Iraq he was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars. Based on information released by the Department of Defense (DOD), he should have been awarded six bronze service stars. He listed his deployment dates from: * 26 April 2003 to 30 July 2004, which included the Liberation of Iraq Transition of Iraq and Iraqi Governance campaigns * 28 June 2006 to 19 June 2007, which included the National Resolution campaign * 18 November 2008 to 7 November 2009, which included the Iraqi Surge and Iraqi Sovereignty campaigns 3. He provides his DD Form 214. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 17 September 1999 and he was honorably discharged on 28 August 2012. 2. His DD Form 214 shows in: a. item 12f (Foreign Service) he completed 9 years, 10 months, and 6 days of foreign service. b. item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized (All periods of service)) he was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars. c. item 18 (Remarks) he served in Iraq from 26 April 2003 to 30 July 2004, from 28 June 2006 to 19 June 2007, and from 18 November 2008 to 7 November 2009. 3. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the Iraq Campaign Medal is awarded to members who have served in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). A bronze service star is authorized for wear with this medal for participation in each credited campaign. A silver service star will be worn in lieu of five bronze service stars. Approved campaigns are: * Liberation of Iraq (19 March 2003-1 May 2003) * Transition of Iraq (2 May 2003-28 June 2004) * Iraqi Governance (29 June 2004-15 December 2005) * National Resolution (16 December 2005-9 January 2007) * Iraqi Surge (10 January 2007-31 December 2008) * Iraqi Sovereignty (1 January 2009-31 August 2010) * New Dawn (1 September 2010-31 December 2011) DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The evidence of record shows the applicant served in Iraq from 26 April 2003 to 30 July 2004, from 28 June 2006 to 19 June 2007, and from 18 November 2008 to 7 November 2009. 2. His DD Form 214 shows he was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars. 3. Based on his deployment dates, he participated in six campaigns. 4. Therefore, he is entitled to one silver service star and one bronze service star for wear on his already-awarded Iraq Campaign Medal.
