The applicant did not file within the three year time frame provided in Title 10, United States Code, section 1552(b); however, the ABCMR conducted a substantive review of this case and determined it is in the interest of justice to excuse the applicant's failure to timely file. 2. The applicant states his social security number was entered wrong on his DD Form 214 and it should have been xxx-xx-xxxx. 3. The applicant provides his social security card, which shows his SSN as xxx-xx-xxxx. 4. A review of the applicant’s service record shows: a. He was inducted into the Army of the United States on 26 October 1966. b. His DA Form 20 (Enlisted Qualification Record) shows his SSN as xxx-xx-xxxx. c. Special Orders, dated January shows his SSN as xxx-xx-xxxx. d. He was honorably discharged on 25 October 1968 and his DD Form 214 shows his SSN as xxx-xx-xxxx. e. Orders number, dated 20 September shows his SSN as xxx-xx-xxxx. 5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separations Documents), dated 23 January 1967, prescribed the separation documents prepared for Soldiers upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. a. Item 2, enter the individual's service number and authorized prefix. b. Item 3, transcribe the SSN number from the appropriate documents. BOARD DISCUSSION: 1. After reviewing the application and all supporting documents, the Board found that relief was warranted. 2. The Board determined that the preponderance of the documentation available for review, to include a copy of the applicant’s SSN card, warranted a correction to his DD214 and supporting military records.
