Pursuant to the provisions of reference (a) Subject, hereinafter referred to as Petitioner, filed enclosure (1) with this Board requesting, in effect, that the applicable naval record be corrected to reflect 6 months of active service in item “24.b” of DD Form 214 effective January 9, 1963. 2. The Board, consisting of reviewed Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice on July 16, 2020 and, pursuant to its regulations, determined that the corrective action indicated below should be taken on the available evidence of record. Documentary material considered by the Board consisted of the enclosures, relevant portions of Petitioner’s naval record, and applicable statutes, regulations and policies. 3. The Board, having reviewed all the facts of record pertaining to Petitioner's allegations of error and injustice, found that, before applying to this Board, he exhausted all administrative remedies available under existing law and regulations within the Department of the Navy. The Board made the following findings: a. Petitioner enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for eight (8) years effective June 23, 1962. b. On July 24, 1962 Petitioner was joined for active duty for . c. On October 12, 1962 Petitioner was transferred from , and joined for duty with . d. On November 14, 1962 Petitioner was transferred from and joined for duty with effective November 15, 1962. e. Petitioner released from active duty effective January 9, 1963 and joined by effective January 10, 1963. Petitioner discharged from Marine Corps Reserve effective June 22, 1970. CONCLUSION Upon review and consideration of all the evidence of record, and especially in light of the contents of enclosure (2), the Board finds the existence of an error warranting the following corrective action. The Board determined that Item “24.a(1)” of Petitioner’s DD Form 214 effective January 9, 1963 should read “00 years, 05 months, 16 days” active service vice “00 05 15”. Therefore, the Board concluded that Partial relief warranted. The Board also noted the Petitioner’s record reflected two periods of active duty for training. Fifteen (15) days during the anniversary year ending 22 June 1964 and fifteen (15) days during the anniversary year ending 22 June 1966. RECOMMENDATION That Petitioner’s naval record be corrected, where appropriate, to show that: DD Form 215 be issued for DD Form 214 effective January 9, 1963 correcting Item “24.a(1)” to reflect “00 05 16” vice “00 05 15”, Item “24.a(3)” to “00 06 17” vice “00 06 16”, and Item “24.b” to “00 05 16” vice “00 05 15”. A copy of this Report of Proceedings will be filed in Petitioner’s naval record. 4. It is certified that a quorum was present at the Board’s review and deliberations, and that the foregoing is a true and complete record of the Board’s proceedings in the above-entitled matter. 5.
