Pursuant to the reference, Petitioner, a former enlisted member of the Navy, filed the enclosure with this Board, requesting correction to the Social Security Number (SSN) reflected in his Naval Records. 2. Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice on 9 March 2020, and, pursuant to its regulations, determined that the corrective action indicated below should be taken on the available evidence of record. Documentary material considered by the Board consisted of the enclosures, relevant portions of his naval service records, and applicable statutes, regulations, and policies. 3. The Board, having reviewed all the facts of record pertaining to Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice finds as follows: a. Before applying to this Board, Petitioner exhausted all administrative remedies available under existing law and regulations within the Department of the Navy. b. Although the enclosure was not filed in a timely manner, it is in the interest of justice to review the application on its merits. c. Petitioner enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 20 April 1975 to 13 August 1975. Petitioner’s Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) reflects a Petitioner states that the SSN was entered into his record, but that it is an incorrect number that is not assigned to him. d. Petitioner provides the Board with a copy of his birth certificate and his SS card, which reflects the SSN e. Petitioner states that he is now a senior citizen and the incorrect SSN in his military records is creating roadblocks. He would like to his record corrected to reflect his correct SSN. CONCLUSION: The Board, in its review of Petitioner’s entire record and application, carefully weighed Petitioner’s contentions and the evidence he provided. TheBoard relied on Petitioner’s SS card and his birth certificate, and found that Petitioner is entitled to corrective action with respect to a change to his social security number on his DD Form 214. The Board found that Petitioner’s SSN as reflected in his Naval record is erroneous and appears to have been entered incorrectly when he enlisted. RECOMMENDATION: In view of the above, the Board directs the following corrective action: That Petitioner be issued a new Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) which reflects his correct SSN of That a copy of this report of proceedings be filed in Petitioner’s naval record. That, upon request, the Department of Veterans Affairs be informed that Petitioner’s application was received by the Board on 10 January 2020. 4. It is certified that a quorum was present at the Board’s review and deliberations, and that the foregoing is a true and complete record of the Board’s proceedings in the above-entitled matter. 5.
