THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests, in effect, that item 12a (Record of Service Date Entered AD This Period) of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected. 2. The applicant states his DD Form 214 is incorrect because he served in the Army for 6 years from 17 January 2001 to 24 January 2007. 3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 and DD Form   4/1 (Enlistment/Reenlistment Document) with attachments. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant's military service records and DD Form 4/1 (Enlistment/ Reenlistment Document) show that he enlisted in the Regular Army on   18 January 2001. He completed the necessary training and was awarded the military occupational specialty (MOS) 68E (Dental Specialist). 2. The applicant's last duty assignment was at the Medical Company Dental Services, Fort Hood, Texas. The applicant received an honorable discharge on 24 January 2007. 3. Item 12a of his DD Form 214 shows the entry 2006 02 01. Item 12c (Net Active Service This period) of his DD Form 214 shows the entry 6 years and 7 days. 4. A research of the applicant's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) shows the applicant enlisted in the Regular Component of the Armed Forces on  18 January 2001 for 6 years. 5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) paragraph 2-4h(12)(a) states, in pertinent part, enter the beginning date of the continuous period of active duty for which a DD Form 214 was not previously issued. Also, enter the amount of service during the period covered by the DD Form 214 in Item 12c, by subtracting item 12a Record of Service Date Entered AD This Period from Item 12b Record of Service Separation Date This period. Any lost time under 10, USC 972 and non-creditable time after Expiration Term of Service (ETS), if any, are deducted. Such time will be entered in Item 18 (Remarks) of the DD Form 214. If the Soldier is released from active duty because of voided enlistment, enter "00 00 00." DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant contends that Item 12a of his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show 18 January 2001. 2. The evidence shows that the applicant's Date Entered AD This Period was  18 January 2001. Therefore, the applicant is entitled to correction of his records to show in Item 12a, Date Entered AD This Period 2001 01 18. 3. Based on this correction, Item 12c, Net Active Service This Period is correct as recorded.
