THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1.  Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2.  Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).


THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests, in effect, correction of his record of active duty service.  

2.  The applicant states that his present discharge will not be accepted at the Michael Debakey Medical Center.  

3.  The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 27 August 1982; a letter from the National Personnel Records Center, dated 24 October 2006; and his NGB Form 22 (National Guard Bureau Report of Separation and Record of Service).

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant enlisted in the Army National Guard on 6 February 1982 for a period of 6 years.  

2.  The applicant was ordered to active duty for training on 17 May 1982.  He was honorably released from active duty for training on 27 August 1982 and was transferred back to his Army National Guard unit.  His DD Form 214 shows he was ordered to active duty for training on 17 May 1982 and completed 3 months and 11 days total active service this period and 3 months and 11 days total prior inactive service.  


3.  The applicant was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard on 13 February 1988.  His NGB Form 22 shows he completed 6 years of service.  

4.  Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) governs the preparation of the DD Form 214.  It states that the DD Form 214 is a synopsis of the Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty.  It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active Army service at the time of release from active duty, retirement or discharge.  

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1.  The applicant served in the Army National Guard from 6 February 1982 to 13 February 1988.  This period of 6 years is properly reflected on his NGB Form 22.  

2.  While in the Army National Guard, the applicant was ordered to active duty for training from 17 May 1982 to 27 August 1982, which is a period of 3 months and 11 days.  This period of service is properly reflected on his DD Form 214 for the period ending 27 August 1982, which is meant to show only the most recent period of continuous active duty.

3.  There is no error or injustice in this case regarding the applicant's service.  Therefore, there is no basis for amending his NGB Form 22 or his DD Form 214.
