THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests that the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal be added to the awards listed on his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) and that he be issued a DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214). 2. The applicant states he received the medal but it is not listed on his DD Form 214. 3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 and a Wikipedia printout of the criteria for the medal. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant served in the Regular Army from 1 May 2007 to 31 March 2009 and was separated with an honorable discharge due to weight control failure. 2. Block 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of his DD Form 214 lists the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. 3. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states that the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal is authorized for award to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who have participated in the Global War on Terrorism operations outside of the designated areas of eligibility on or after 11 September 2001 to a future date to be determined. 4. The applicable guidance now states that all Soldiers on active duty, including Reserve Component Soldiers mobilized or National Guard Soldiers activated on or after 11 September 2001 to a date to be determined, having served 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days are authorized the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant states he received the medal but it is not listed on his DD Form 214. 2. The applicant was on active duty during the qualifying period and is authorized the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. It should be shown on his DD Form 214.
