THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the award of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. 2. The applicant states that he was deployed in Afghanistan from 9 November 2006 to 17 March 2007. 3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 for the period ending 11 April 2007; a Statement of Wartime Service, dated 13 March 2007; and mobilization and deployment orders. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant's records show the applicant, a U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) Soldier, was ordered to active duty on 20 October 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He served in Afghanistan from 9 November 2006 to 17 March 2007. 2. Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of his DD Form 214 does not show award of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. 3. Item 18 (Remarks) of the applicant's DD Form 214 shows that he served in a designated imminent danger pay area, Afghanistan, from "20061109 - 20070317." 4. Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan memorandum, subject: Statement of Wartime Service, shows that the applicant was assigned/attached to the Combined Joint Special Operation Task Force - Afghanistan (3rd Special Forces Group, with duty at Bagram. His orders also verify his deployment to Afghanistan. 5. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the Afghanistan Campaign Medal is awarded to members who have served in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). The area of eligibility encompasses all the land area of the country of Afghanistan and all air spaces above the land. The Afghanistan Campaign Medal period of eligibility is on or after 24 October 2001 to a future date to be determined by the Secretary of Defense or the cessation of OEF. 6. Military Personnel (MILPER) Message Number 08-123, dated 30 April 2008, designated three campaigns for the Afghanistan Campaign Medal: Liberation of Afghanistan from 11 September 2001 to 30 November 2001; Consolidation I from 1 December 2001 to 30 September 2006; and Consolidation II from 1 October 2006 to a date to be determined. Furthermore, Army Regulation 600-8-22 states a bronze service star will be awarded for wear on the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for participation in each credited campaign. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Evidence of record shows that the applicant was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 9 November 2006 to 17 March 2007. He also participated in the Consolidation II campaign. Therefore, he is entitled to the award of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one bronze service star and correction of his records to show this award.
