IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 30 September 2010 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20100011644 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show award of the Honorable Service Lapel Button for his service during World War II. 2. The applicant states the corrections made to his DD Form 214 in 2009 and 2010 failed to show the appropriate lapel button for his military service. 3. The applicant provides no additional documentation in support of his application. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant served in the Army of the United States from 7 June 1943 to 9 December 1945 and he was discharged with an honorable characterization of service. 2. As a result of earlier applications to this Board for administrative corrections to his discharge documents, he was issued a DD Form 214 and a DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214) in 2009 and 2010. 3. The applicant's DD Form 214: a. does not show award of the Honorable Service Lapel Button in Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized); and b. shows in Item 18 (Remarks) "Lapel Button Issued." The entry fails to specify which button he was issued. 4. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) provides for award of the Honorable Service Lapel Button for honorable Federal military service between 8 September 1939 and 31 December 1946. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant contends that his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show award of the Honorable Service Lapel Button for his service during World War II. 2. The evidence of record clearly shows the applicant served honorably during a qualifying period for award of the Honorable Service Lapel Button. 3. In view of the above, this lapel button should be shown on his DD Form 214.
