THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for the period ending 21 April 2010 by amending item 12a (Date Entered AD (Active Duty) This Period) to show 3 January 2008. 2. He states, in effect, he has orders which show the correct date he entered AD. The Department of Veterans Affairs needs his DD Form 214 to reflect the amended date. 3. He provided copies of various orders and his DD Form 214. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. His records show he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve on 9 July 1982 and continued to serve as a drilling Reservist in a Troop Program Unit. 2. The U.S. Army Human Resources Command (AHRC) ordered the applicant to AD with a report date of 11 October 2007 as shown in Orders A-10-721703, dated 30 October 2007. 3. He provided a copy of Orders A-10-721703A01, issued by AHRC on 20 November 2007. This order amended his report date to AD to show 3 January 2008 instead of 11 October 2007. 4. A Retirement Point Detail printout obtained from the AHRC, Integrated Web Services (IWS) database shows he entered AD for training on 3 January 2008. 5. Item 12a of the DD Form 214 shows he entered AD on 11 October 2007 and item 12b (Separation Date This Period) shows he separated on 21 April 2010. Item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) shows he completed 2 years, 6 months, and 11 days of net active service during this period. 6. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents which are prepared for individuals upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It establishes standardized policy for preparing and distributing the DD Form 214. 7. Paragraph 2-4 of the same regulation provides instructions for the completion of items that appear on the DD Form 214. Instructions for the completion of Item 12 (Record of Service) are as follow: a. Item 12a - Enter the beginning date of the continuous period of AD for issuance of this DD Form 214, for which a DD Form 214 was not previously issued; b. Item 12b shows the Soldier's transition date; and c. Item 12c shows the amount of service this period computed by subtracting item 12a from item 12b. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of record shows he entered AD on 3 January 2008 and served continuously through 21 April 2010. As a result, he is entitled to correction of item 12a of his DD Form 214 to show "2008 01 03" and item 12c to show "0002 03 19."
