THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests his deployment to Iraq be shown on his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge From Active Duty). 2. The applicant states he just discovered that it was not entered on the DD Form 214. 3. The applicant provides several service record documents, including: * Copy 1 and Copy 4 of his DD Form 214 * his Enlisted Record Brief (ERB) * Soldier Deployment History Out-processing Report * Unit deployment orders with personnel roster * Applicant's vaccination record * DD Form 2900 (Post-Deployment Health Re- Assessment * Medical SRP Checklist * DA Form 4700 Medical Record-Supplemental Medical Data * DRC Case Management Tracking Record CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army and entered active duty on 18 November 2008. He completed training as a food service operator and was assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas. Headquarters, Fort Bliss Permanent Orders 191-01, dated 10 July 2009, ordered various units and individuals, including the applicant, to deploy for participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom for about 12 months. 2. His ERB shows he was on a combat deployment from July 2009 to April 2010. 3. The applicant was honorably discharged as a specialist, on 7 April 2011, due to a condition not constituting a disability. He had completed 2 years, 4 months, and 7 days of active duty service. 4. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) reported that the applicant received Hostile Fire/Imminent Danger Pay from 23 July 2009 through 10 April 2010. 5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) provides the guidance for the completion of the DD Form 214. The instructions for item 18 (Remarks) include the require that for an active duty Soldier deployed with his or her unit during their continuous period of active service, the following entry will be made: "SERVICE IN (NAME OF COUNTRY DEPLOYED) FROM (inclusive dates for example, YYYYMMDD - YYYYMMDD)." DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The applicant's combat deployment to Iraq between 23 July 2009 and 10 April 2010 was confirmed by DFAS. It should be shown in Item 18 of his DD Form 214.
