IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 20 November 2014 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20140017748 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show award of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (GWOTSM). 2. She states she qualified for this award. 3. She does not provide any additional evidence. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. On 23 December 2008, the applicant enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve for a period of 6 years. On 25 May 2010, she was ordered to initial active duty training. She served on active duty for 6 months and 15 days and was honorably released on 9 December 2010. 2. Her DD Form 214 does not show award of the GWOTSM. 3. A memorandum, Subject: GWOTSM, dated 19 September 2014, shows the applicant was awarded the GWOTSM for the period 7 January 2011 through 20 April 2012. 4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) in effect at the time stated the DD Form 214 is a summary of a Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active duty service at the time of release from active duty (REFRAD), retirement, or discharge. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of record shows the applicant was awarded the GWOTSM for the period 7 January 2011 through 20 April 2012. However, she was REFRAD on 9 December 2010. Therefore, any subsequent awards or achievements that occurred after her REFRAD should not be listed on this DD Form 214. Therefore, there is no basis for granting her requested action.
