IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 2 December 2014 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20140019189 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests the removal from his official military personnel file (OMPF) of Permanent Orders (PO) Number 153-005, dated 2 June 2013, awarding him the Bronze Star Medal. 2. The applicant states that while deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 he was presented with the Bronze Star Medal and PO Number 116-011, dated 26 April 2013, awarding him the medal. Upon his redeployment, he noticed his OMPF reflected two Bronze Star Medals during the same tour. Apparently the award was processed twice in error. He contacted his S-1 and was told he had to petition the Army Board for Corrections of Military Records to request removal of the duplicate award. 3. The applicant provides two award orders and an email. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant is a Regular Army Soldier serving in the rank/grade of master sergeant/E-8. He served in Afghanistan from on or about October 2012 to August 2013 while assigned to the Combined Joint Task Force-101 (CJTF-101). 2. The applicant provides and the performance folder of his OMPF contains: a. PO 116-011, dated 26 April 2013, issued by the Commander (CDR), CJFT-101, awarding him the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service in support of OEF, Afghanistan, from 27 October 2012 to 1 August 2013. b. PO 153-005, dated 2 June 2013, issued by the CDR, CJFT-101, awarding him the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service in support of OEF, Afghanistan from 27 October 2012 to 1 August 2013. 3. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states only one decoration will be awarded to an individual for the same act, achievement, or period of meritorious service. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of record confirms the applicant was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for the same period of meritorious service in contravention of policy. It is presumed an administrative error occurred when orders PO 153-005, dated 2 June 2013, were issued awarding him the Bronze Star Medal for the period 27 October 2012 to 1 August 2013, as PO 116-011, dated 26 April 2013, had already done so. Therefore, it would appropriate to remove PO 153-005 from the performance folder of his OMPF.
