IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 9 January 2018 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20160004879 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC). 2. The applicant states she recently learned that Permanent Orders (PO) 105-03, dated 15 April 2010 awarded the MUC to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 1st Cavalry Division, for service in Iraq from 16 December 2008 to 19 November 2009. She was assigned to the headquarters of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and deployed with the unit to Mosul, Iraq, during that time period. 3. The applicant provides: * PO 105-03, awarding the MUC * Orders 310-001, assigning her to 3rd BCT * DA Form 67-9 (Officer Evaluation Report) covering the period 16 June 2008 through 15 June 2009 CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. Following prior enlisted service, the applicant was appointed as a Signal Corps officer on 11 April 1996. A review of unit awards records shows she is authorized the MUC for her assignment with the 35th Signal Brigade (Airborne) in Iraq in 2004 to 2005. 2. Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, Orders 310-001, dated 5 November 2008, assigned her to 3rd BCT, 1st Cavalry Division, for a deployment period of 365 days, effective 4 December 2008. 3. A DA Form 67-9 covering the period 16 June 2008 through 15 June 2009 shows she was assigned to Headquarters, 3rd BCT, in Iraq. 4. Human Resources Command (HRC) PO 105-03, dated 15 April 2010, awarded Headquarters, 3rd BCT, the MUC for the period of service 16 December 2008 to 19 November 2009. 5. Her Officer Record Brief (ORB), dated 28 November 2012, lists in Section VIII (Awards and Decorations) two (2) MUCs. 6. She retired by reason of disability on 17 January 2013 and she was placed on the retired list on 18 January 2013. Her DD Form 214 shows she was authorized the MUC (2nd Award). REFERENCES: Army Regulation (AR) 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the MUC is awarded to units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services for at least 6 continuous months during the period of military operations against an armed enemy occurring on or after 1 January 1944. Service in a combat zone is not required, but must be directly related to the combat effort. Units based in continental United States are excluded from this award, as are other units outside the area of operation. The unit must display such outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart and above other units with similar missions. Effective 11 September 2001, the MUC is authorized for units and/or detachments of the Armed Forces of the United States for exceptionally meritorious performance for at least 6 continuous months (a month is considered 30 calendar days) during military operations against an armed enemy without regard to type of duties performed or the type of unit performing the duties. DISCUSSION: The applicant requested correction of her DD Form 214 to show award of the MUC. The available evidence shows she is authorized two MUCs. These awards are shown on her ORB and DD Form 214. The available evidence does not show she is authorized an additional MUC. //NOTHING FOLLOWS// ABCMR Record of Proceedings AR20150000953 Enclosure 1 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS ABCMR Record of Proceedings (cont) AR20160004879 2 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Enclosure 1 ABCMR Record of Proceedings (cont) AR20160004879 2 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Enclosure 2
