IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: DOCKET NUMBER: AR20170000201 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests Item 12e (Total Prior Inactive Service) of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected to include the period from April 2012 through April 2015. 2. He states the current entry is incorrect. 3. He provides his DD Form 214. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) for 8 years on 16 April 2007. 2. He entered active duty for training (ADT) on 8 May 2007 and completed training for award of a medical specialty. He was honorably released from ADT on 4 September 2008. His DD Form 214 for this period of service shows: * he completed 1 year, 3 months, and 27 days of active service * he completed 22 days of prior inactive service 3. He was ordered to active duty on 27 November 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was honorably released from active duty on 11 April 2012. His DD Form 214 for this period of service shows he completed 1 year, 4 months, and 14 days of active service. It also shows: * he completed 1 year, 3 months, and 27 days of prior active service * he completed 2 years, 2 months, and 22 days of prior inactive service 4. There is no record of completion of another period of active service of 90 days or longer that required the issuance of a separate DD Form 214. 5. He was honorably discharged from the USAR on 15 April 2015 following the completion of his statutory obligation. REFERENCES: Army Regulation 635-5 (Personnel Separations-Separation Documents) states the DD Form 214 is a summary of a Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active duty service at the time of release from active duty, retirement, or discharge. It further states to enter from previously issued DD Forms 214 and or Enlisted Record Brief, the total amount of prior inactive service, less lost time, if any, in Item 12e. DISCUSSION: The DD Form 214 is a summary of a Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active duty service at the time of release from active duty, retirement, or discharge. Regulatory guidance does not allow for the inclusion of active or inactive service which occurred after the ending date of the DD Form 214. //NOTHING FOLLOWS// ABCMR Record of Proceedings Enclosure 1 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS ABCMR Record of Proceedings (cont) AR20170000201 2 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Enclosure 1 ABCMR Record of Proceedings (cont) AR20170000201 2 ARMY BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Enclosure 2
