The applicant states his DD Form 214 for the period ending 30 September 2020 does not reflect his foreign service in Korea; however, his foreign service in Korea is shown on his first DD Form 214 for the period ending 23 March 1987. His retirement DD Form 214 also does not show award of the Korea Defense Service Medal. 2. He enlisted in the Regular Army on 24 May 1984. He was honorably released from active duty and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve Control Group (Reinforcement) on 23 March 1987. His DD Form 214 for this period shows in: * item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) – 2 years and 10 months * item 12f (Foreign Service) – 1 year and 18 days * item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) – no Korea Defense Service Medal 3. U.S. Army Human Resources Command Orders R-01-570452, 10 January 2005, ordered him to active duty in an Active Guard Reserve status with a reporting date of 15 January 2005. 4. He retired on 30 September 2020. His DD Form 214 for this period shows in: * item 12c – 15 years, 8 months, and 16 days * item 12d (Total Prior Active Service) – 4 years and 8 months * item 12f – no entries * item 13 – no Korea Defense Service Medal 5. His records contain no evidence showing he performed service outside the continental United States during this period. 6. His DD Form 215 (Correction to DD Form 214), 13 August 2021, shows award of the Korea Defense Service Medal was added to his DD Form 214 for the period ending 30 September 2020. (Note: The DD Form 215 was issued after he submitted an application to the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR).) BOARD DISCUSSION: After reviewing the application, all supporting documents, and the evidence found within the applicant's military records, the Board found that relief was not warranted. The Board carefully considered the applicant's record of service, documents submitted in support of the petition and executed a comprehensive and standard review based on law, policy and regulation. Upon review of the applicant’s petition and available military records, the Board determined there is sufficient evidence showing the applicant had any foreign service outside the United States during his period of service. The Board determined the applicant’s records were corrected after submitting this application. Evidence shows the applicant was awarded the Korea Defense Service Medal and issued a DD Form 215. The Board recommends a copy of the applicant's DD Form 215, 13 August 2021, showing award of the Korea Defense Service Medal be provided to the applicant. The Board determined relief is not warranted.
