Facts and Circumstances: a. The record contains a properly constituted DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), which was authenticated by the applicant’s signature. His DD Form 214 indicates that he was released from ADT under the provisions of Chapter 4, AR 635-200 by reason of completion of required active service, with a characterization of service uncharacterized. b. On 1 December 1993, the applicant was discharged. At the time of discharge, the applicant had completed 5 months, and 1 day of active military service. 2. Legal/Regulatory Basis for Separation Action: Army Regulation 635-200, in effect at the time, set forth the basic authority for separation of enlisted personnel. Chapter 4 of that regulation provided, in pertinent part, for the separation of individuals at completion of required service (i.e., expiration term of service). SECTION B-APPLICANT’S SUBMISSIONS 1. Finding(s), conclusion(s), and reason(s) for the Board's decision(s) on issues of propriety and/or equity: a. Propriety: The applicant has not submitted an issue of propriety and the ADRB has not otherwise relied upon an issue of propriety to change the discharge. b. Equity: The parenthetical number(s) below correspond(s) to the issue number(s) on the DD Form 293, or in Part VI, Paragraph 1, above. (1) The issue is rejected. The Board carefully examined the available record during the period of enlistment under review. The record shows that on 7 February 1992 the applicant enlisted in the Army Reserve for a period of 8 years. On 1 July 1992, he was ordered to Initial Active Duty for Training and successfully completed basic combat training and individual advanced training as a unit supply specialist. He was released from active duty and returned to his USAR unit on 1 December 1993. Army regulations stipulate that individuals who successfully complete Active Duty for Training while in reserve status receive a characterization of service of uncharacterized when the individual has served on active duty for less than l80 days. Since the applicant served less than 180 days on active duty, his service was uncharacterized. This is not an adverse separation action and denotes only that the individual had less than l80 days on active duty. The Board, being convinced that the characterization of service and the reason for discharge were both proper and equitable, voted to deny relief. 3.
