The applicant was screened for underlying mental health issues due to a depressive mood, lack of motivation and inability to cope with sea or shore duty The applicant was diagnosed with an adjustment disorder with depressed mood by three separate physicians. They all concurred that the applicant was not suitable for continued service. At the time of each diagnosis, the applicant repeatedly stated to be Discharged rather than return to the assigned unit. When the applicant was presented with the command's intent to discharge, not objection or statement was provided. The Board finds no issues with propriety or equity in this case. The applicant's record supports the discharge for adjustment disorder, which carries an RE3 reentry code, which is appropriate based upon the nature of the applicant's discharge and failure to complete the initial term of service, An REI is not appropriate or authorized for adjustment disorders. The Board unanimously recommends that the applicant's discharge stand as issued. Propriety: Discharge was proper. Equity: Discharge was equitable.
