Coast Guard policy prescribes no higher than a General, Under Honorable Conditions character of service for individuals separated as a result of violating the Coast Guard’s drug policy. The Coast Guard has zero tolerance for drug abuse. The General, Under Honorable Conditions discharge is equitable. The Board noticed that the applicant was issued a General Discharge in Block 24 of the DD-214 for character of service. The Boards recommends that this is administratively corrected to Under Honorable Conditions. The General discharge is correct, but is not a valid character of service entry for Block 24 per ALCOAST 562/08. Propriety: Discharge was proper. Equity: Discharge was equitable.
