Pursuant to the provisions of the reference, Petitioner, of the United States Navy, filed the enclosure with this Board, requesting that his naval record be corrected to accurately reflect the awards to which he is entitled. 2. The Board, consisting of reviewed Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice on and, pursuant to its regulations, determined that the corrective action indicated below should be taken on the available evidence of record. Documentary material considered by the Board consisted of the enclosure, relevant portions of Petitioner’s naval service records, as well as applicable statutes, regulations, and policies. 3. The Board, having reviewed all the facts of record pertaining to Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice, finds as follows: a. Before applying to this Board, Petitioner exhausted all administrative remedies available under existing law and regulations within the Department of the Navy. b. Although the enclosure was not filed in a timely manner, it is in the interest of justice to review the application on its merits. c. Petitioner entered the Navy and was discharged on to accept an appointment as a midshipman in the . d. From Petitioner participated in the flight training program. Petitioner was in continuous naval service. From Petitioner served in the and was awarded the with a gold star. On Petitioner requested to be released from active duty and was released on . e. On Petitioner’s status changed to USNR-Ready Reserve. On Petitioner requested approval of his resignation from the USNR-Ready Reserve; the request was approved on . f. Petitioner asks that his total net service, specifically his active duty service to include his flight training in be accurately reflected on his Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214). Petitioner’s current DD Form 214 reflects 2 years, 11 months and 26 days of active duty; Petitioner asserts he is entitled to 3 years, 6 months, and 19 days of active duty service. g. The Board reviewed Petitioner’s available service record and carefully considered Petitioner’s contentions. CONCLUSION: The Board noted that although Petitioner’s record has multiple references to his assignment to active duty for flight training, and finds that his DD Form 214 should be corrected to reflect the totality of that service. In view of the above, the Board directs the following corrective action. RECOMMENDATION: That Petitioner be issued a new DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty to reflect the entirety of his active duty service, to include his time in flight training for a total of 3 years, 6 months, and 19 days of active service. That a copy of this report of proceedings be filed in Petitioner’s naval record. That, upon request, the Department of Veterans Affairs be informed that Petitioner’s application was received by the Board on . 4.
