Pursuant to the reference, Petitioner, a former member of the Navy, filed the enclosure with the Board for Correction of Naval Records (Board) requesting correction to the separation code listed on his separation documents from JLF to JFL. 2. The Board, consisting of , reviewed Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice on 5 February 2020, and, pursuant to its regulations, determined that the corrective action indicated below should be taken on the available evidence of record. Documentary material considered by the Board consisted of the enclosures, relevant portions of his naval service records, as well as applicable statutes, regulations, and policies. 3. The Board, having reviewed all the facts of record pertaining to Petitioner’s allegations of error and injustice finds as follows: a. Before applying to this Board, Petitioner exhausted all administrative remedies available under existing law and regulations within the Department of the Navy. b. Although the enclosure was not filed in a timely manner, it is in the interest of justice to review the application on its merits. c. Petitioner enlisted in the Navy and began a period of active duty on 29 August 1996. On 20 June 2001, Petitioner received an honorable discharge by reason of disability severance pay. d. Petitioner was issued a Certificate of release or discharge from active duty (DD Form 214) which incorrectly reflects a separation code of JLF. CONCLUSION: Upon review and consideration of all the evidence of record, the Board determined the Petitioner’s request warrants favorable action. The Board notes the Petitioner’s Certificate of release or discharge from active duty (DD Form 214) incorrectly reflects Petitioner’s separation code as JLF. The Board notes that Petitioner was discharged by reason of disability severance and therefore should have the corresponding separation code of JFL. In view of the above, the Board directs the following corrective action. RECOMMENDATION: That Petitioner’s naval record, be corrected to reflect a separation code of JFL. That Petitioner be issued Correction to DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 215) for period of active duty ending on 20 June 2001 to reflect Petitioner’s separation code of JFL. That a copy of this Report of Proceedings be filed in Subject’s Naval record.
